Project: Apartment Living Room

Now that we spend more and more time in the living room and kitchen, the girls and I want to make our apartment home-ier. What used to be a completely empty living room, little by little we are adding more color and more decor. However, we need your help on how to make this place our home.

So far we have plants of all kind - fake and alive. We have a pumpkin, my little desert terrarium jade-like plant, and a reviving cactus all on a little plate in the corner of our living room. We wanted a little more life in the room - something to come home to. I cannot wait to bring my betta fish home! We also put cheap flowers out to add a little fall color to our empty coffee table, and Myrna added some placemats to our "dining room" table.

Our kitchen cannot be too decorated since it is already cluttered as it is - we are working on it! But moving things around, we found some counter space for Myrna's decorative pumpkin and her cookie jar! The cookies in the jar didn't last long, but it totally adds a touch of home.

I bought a monthly calendar white board for me and the girls to use. Although, a way bigger white board would have been nicer and cleaner - we are busy bees - our little calendar helps us know where everything is and keep track of current events - like paying the electricity bill!

I'm so punny and nerdy...

For the first two months, the girls and I actually had no TV in the living room, but Michelle brought her bedroom TV into the living room for all of us to watch TV together - like American Horror Story on Wednesdays! It really changes the mood of the room to make it feel like home.

We have made a little progress, but the walls are still empty. Any ideas? Preferably ideas fit for college girls on a budget? :D

I was thinking getting the Ikea Honeycomb Mirrors for the "dining room" wall. I thought it would be the perfect touch, and they are so cheap for a collection of mirrors! I can also put them in good use after we move out. For the walls behind the couch, we have no idea what to add there. Also, we are thinking about getting a key holder for all our keys to hang by the door.

Please let me know, all you creative people, what I should do! Much appreciated!

  2. Your apartment looks great! One thing you might do for the walls...find a Groupon for a "paint night" type event and make your own artwork together!

  4. Keeping your apartment looking bright by adding colorful ornaments is a great idea. Straying away from clutter is almost inevitable, so the best you can do is to keep the attention away from the clutter and divert the attention to something brighter, like prints. Hahaha! Anyway, thanks for sharing that, Sam! Keep us posted with the progress. All the best! :)
