Fall 2014 Semester: Conclusion

This has been a very tough semester...

I know every semester grows more challenging, but I hope for my grades to only get better from here on out, because I have hit rock bottom. College really isn't like high school. I would spend hours studying for exams and only a couple of hours on the final or getting exempt from finals; now, I am studying days for an exam and weeks for the final. Even after all that, I still feel unprepared and my grades show that...

Why?

I think it is because I do not study effectively and that I am easily distracted when I do sit down and study. I try to be a perfectionist with my notes, rewriting the same thing and changing up my method from time to time. Sometimes, I leave studying until a day or two before the exam, but there was one occasion where I studied physics weeks before my exam and my grade did not deliver. I just know that I need to change the way I study or else my last semesters would be a repeat of this one.

But after a talk with my roommate, we made a plan. We were both having trouble this semester, so we plan to motivate each other to study every day from day one. I am going to need it since I will be taking the most I have ever scheduled: six classes and seventeen hours.

Wish us luck..

  3. The best advice my mom ever gave me is to figure out what the professor wants and focus on that. Studying and taking copious notes is definitely useful for your overall knowledge, but next semester, perhaps it will help to figure out what specifically the professor wants you to take notes on (lectures? readings? in-class discussions?). Not sure if you were looking for advice here or just wanted to share your own experiences, but this is probably the best advice my mom has ever given me (because it can be applied to working after you graduate and in day-to-day relationships), and I thought I'd share. Either way, I'm sure you did better than you thought and I know you'll continue to do great next semester! Have a great holiday!
